Ethics

4. I used to think that institutions like the Vatican or the US Senate were conservative because they were big, and hence bureaucracy slowed down changes. An alternative: “capitalist” or utilitarian institutions will only be ethical when people (more ethical) will not validate the institution if it doesn’t change. This is a slow process because it is just about the symptoms.

3. When you see yourself being unfair or annoyed at someone, tell yourself: this person is a fellow human being. They deserve everything you can give to them unless they are actively doing bad things to other people. And in that case, you still have the responsibility to try changing things.

2. If you are going to scold someone, ask yourself before: “am I becoming an old person?” and “would my 16-years-old version do this?”

1. Sometimes, I tell myself “it is only ethical to do this.” The meaning I give to it is that “This is the only ethical option. Hence I must do it. Further, there is no glory in doing it, it is just being ethical.”

0. I feel that the proportion of women that are ethical is larger than that of men being ethical.

-1. Sometimes I coughed and I was sure I didn’t have covid, but I felt I needed to say to the people around “I am fine, I just drank water too fast.” This made me realize that I was thinking badly of people around coughing even if I had no reason. I was applying my irrational judgment of people to myself. So: when you feel you need to explain your behavior and you think it is correct behavior, maybe you are misjudging other people.

-2. Is it morally wrong to do captains picking in a sport?
